The Destin Cobia Tournament presented by HarborWalk Marina is a month long event that attracts hundreds of anglers from Northwest Florida.
With a nickname like, “The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village,” great fishing tournaments and Destin naturally go hand in hand. This annual tournament takes place at HarborWalk Marina in Destin, Florida, located on the Destin Harbor, minutes away from the intracoastal waterway and the Gulf of Mexico. The tournament begins when the first fish is caught and ends April 30th at 8PM. All events are free and open to the public.

Our Time

marciepicFall. What many of us have waited for all year, the slower days of fall. This is what I like to call, Our time. This picture featured by Marcie Bell of Life Off The Beaten Path Photos,  captures what I think of our area this time of year. Our time here on the Emerald Coast of Okaloosa county is special.  Yes, I am always excited to see the tourist in the spring, but when the year is winding down, crowds are gone, cooler temperatures drift in.  It’s the little things like finding a quick  parking place, or a last-minute reservation at my favorite local restaurant. Spending quiet time on the beach with a book is one of my favorite places to hide.  I hope you can enjoy your time this fall.

The 66th Annual Destin Fishing Rodeo is from October 1st thru the 31st. Weigh ins are everyday behind AJ’s.

This Sunday-October 5th!

The 36th Annual Destin Seafood Festival is this weekend. Plan to celebrate Fall this weekend, October 3rd, 4th, and 5th on the historic Destin harbor. Friday the Festival opens at 4pm, and ends at 10. Saturday 10- 10, Sunday 11-4. You can already smell the wonderful food on the harbor. Many local restaurants, including Boathouse Oyster Bar will be preparing their offerings. Make sure to find their booth, and there you will see Rocco and Billie  preparing their famous and well-known Gumbo!

IMG_0843 destinseafoodfestivalFor me, it is all about the food and the T-shirt. I can’t wait to enjoy the fresh local flavor fish. The next three days planned are perfect for our slower days and cooler weather, with a slight chance of rain on Friday, and Sunny with high of 78 on Saturday and Sunday.  Good news for everyone, the admission is free, but donations are always welcome for a successful year.  Plenty of parking will be available all around including area restaurants and some new spots have opened up along Hwy. 98 within walking distance to the festival. There is also a shuttle running for anyone parking at the Lively Cinema/Old Time Pottery parking lot at 759 HWY 98, Destin. The Destin Fishing Rodeo T-shirt this year might be my favorite yet.

A lot of  family fun, new and old vendors from earlier years, and lots of things to see and do. Plenty of kids entertainment and live music from different stages along the harbor.

Don’t miss the Mingo Toss on Sunday for kids up to 11 years old.  also known as a “Fish throwing contest” with Mingo snapper. Awards will be given out to kids in all age categories. This is open to the public and free.

Make sure to say Thanks to the Destin Charter Boat Association for putting on this years 36th Annual Destin Seafood Festival. Without them supporting our local tradition,  we wouldn’t have one. Make sure to visit the website for more information on the festival. Send us pictures from your weekend and we will share here for everyone to enjoy.
